<br />
<div>
1. Grow and Strengthen my Testimony</div>
<div>
2. Read at least one education book for every "fun" book</div>
<div>
3. Learn to drive in the snow/stop being scared to drive in the snow<br />
<br />
Let, I will tell you that I still HATE driving in the snow, so...<br />
I have picked up reading again, and joined a book club with some ladies from church.<br />
As for my Testimony, it is definitely in a different place than it was last year, and it is a much better happier place.<br />
<br />
<br />
For 2014 my Goals are this:<br />
<br />
1. Let people know how I feel, instead of letting them walk all over me.<br />
2. Run a marathon<br />
3. Weigh under 180#<br />
4. Laugh more, and enjoy the time I have with the two best guys on Earth!</div>

I am excited and nervous at the same time. in 12 days Zelner will be ONE YEAR OLD!<br />
<br />
It has gone so fast!<br />
<br />
A year ago today, I was "officially" on "maternity leave" (It isn't really official leave if you basically quit your job...) and we installed the carseat to get ready.<br />
<br />
I am sad that my baby will be considered a toddler now.<br />
<br />
This year has been an interesting one, a roller coaster of emotions.<br />
<br />
I have 12 days left to enjoy my baby, and I am trying to suck up every moment, good, bad, and anything between.<br />
<br />
Before get look to the future, let us look at the past.<br />
<br />
These last few months have been challenging. Zelner didn't gain much weight at his 9 month appointment and the Doctor wasn't too concerned. But things after that got a little strange. Zelner stopped pooping regularly and then around Thanksgiving, started to throw up randomly. When he did finally poo (it was like once a week if that), he would have an extremely hard time and his whole bum was raw and would bleed. Then around Christmas he got this awful rash on his whole face and his back.<br />
<br />
We stopped offering him solids, and I went on the elimination diet. We took him into the doctor and she confirmed it was a food allergy, but what, we had know idea and needed to keep him off solids for 3 weeks and then slowly start introducing them back. Most likely it would be gluten, wheat or dairy.<br />
<br />
I am really grateful we were, and still are breast feeding. We didn't have to get anything fancy or expensive, and he healed fast.<br />
<br />
After a few weeks of figuring out what his food allergy is, it turns out I have it too.<br />
<br />
After delaying as long as possible, we are now a gluten and dairy free house.<br />
<br />
Luckily, it is gluten and not wheat and we have been able to work out a way to make our own fermented breads, and other baked goods. We are experimenting and enjoying most of the fruits of our labors.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02513957006963693706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1446525494544695074.post-77825151911562169132013-11-15T16:33:00.000-08:002013-11-15T16:33:25.616-08:00A Love LetterDear Zelner,<br />
<br />
I really should be cleaning the kitchen or doing laundry, but I thought I would just take a moment to write you a little letter.<br />
<br />
I am not the best mom at getting the dates written down of when you first smiled or laughed. Some days, I just want to be away from you.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Today, right now, I can not get enough of you!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Your smile and laugh, I want to hear all day long.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
That little mischievous laugh you get when you figure something out, melts me. </div>
<br />
This morning, you woke up grumpy. Maybe it is because you are getting another tooth, maybe you just didn't get enough sleep.<br />
<br />
Today, we took a shower together and you loved it. You loved playing in the water and trying to catch the water falling from the shower head. Watching your face as you are trying to understand what is going on, made me stop to think, what were you thinking.<br />
<br />
We also made a trip down to Costco, in Clarkston. You fell asleep on the way down, and I kind of hoped maybe you would sleep as I shopped. But, a rude lady, had to loudly exclaim, as I pulled your sleeping body out of the car.<br />
<br />
Your were happy, and it was alright. I put you in the Tula and off we went. I changed your diaper and I put you on my back to make shopping easier. I think we startled a few elderly as I was talking to you. Then we loaded up and headed home.<br />
<br />
You were so cute in your car seat playing with a toy. You decided you were done and thew it. Then you started to play Peek-a-Boo by yourself with your blanket. It was so precious! I wish I could recorded you.<br />
<br />
You are such a happy baby. Right now, you are wrapped up in our Kokadi Firescales wrap on my back so I could put the groceries away and unload and load the dishwasher. You quickly settled in and fell asleep. No fussing, no screaming, just snuggled in and sleep.<br />
<br />
Zelner, I love you. I have loved you since before you were born. I am so grateful for the love you show and teach me. I don't think I truly felt a love this strong for anyone in my life. The love for you and your father, grows everyday. That moment when you hear him walk through the door and you smile and bounce. That smile, emanates peace and love, pure perfect love.<br />
<br />
I can not imagine life without. You are healing a very broken heart, every day, and for that I want to be there for you.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Always.</div>
<br />
Love,<br />

<br />
Actually, this is the fourth time he has had it.<br />
<br />
This time is was really bad, and we had to take him in.<br />
<br />
Brody and I actually got into a good argument about taking him in. Let's just say saying "I would rather pay $20 for an office visit than $250 for the ER", was not the right thing to say. Especially, after trying to calm down your infant for two and a half hours!<br />
<br />
We did go into the ready care, and got a nebulizer and now are armed for the next attack.<br />
<br />
I just hope it isn't anytime soon.<br />
<br />
In good news, Zelner got his first tooth on Oct 21, and in the last 3 weeks has gotten 4 more for a total of 5 teeth. Here is the order: upper left incisor, bottom right center incisor, upper left center incisor, upper right incisor, and bottom left center incisor.<br />

This month has been a busy month for this little guy!<br />
<br />
We made out first trip to the Westside since Christmas. The reason for the trip was for a funeral, but it was great to see friends I had not see in a while.<br />
<br />
Since we were over the mountains, we made a stop and visited my Grandma Betty (my dad's mom).<br />

Driving through the mountains.</div>
<br />
<br />
A little while after we got back, Zelner had a really bad cold, and we took him to the doctor on the 22nd 12.7 pounds!<br />
<br />
The doctor originally thought Zelner had RSV. He had all the classic symptoms. We were very concerned, especially after being up all night with a baby having difficulty breathing.<br />
<br />
The test came back negative, and he was fine in a few days.<br />
<br />
But, very scarey.<br />
<br />
I am so grateful for Brody and his preisthood. The first night, before we took him to the doctor, Brody gave him a blessing in the middle of the night. We were scared, but we didn't want to go to the ER. The blessing, I believe did more for my nerves, but we were able to get some sleep that night.<br />
<br />
The next morning we debated about taking him into the walk in clinic. He was doing much better. I took him in, and we were super lucky to see our regular doctor! Knowing the doctor, and knowing that she knows me and my natural approach health was a great relief. It was also great to know that my doctor trust me and gave me a single dose of steroids to give Zelner if he got worse during the day, so he could sleep that night. After a few rough nights, Zelner was fine. Then we got word from the doctor, that is was not RSV and therefore shouldn't return. Let's keep our fingers crossed.<br />

I love an excuse for a new outfit, and this year I had a reason to get all of use something matching. As it is, in good ole Southern tradition to have new outfits and to be matching. I tried and tried to convince Brody to let me go all out, but he resisted. I did convince him to do matching bow ties.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I looked and looked, but couldn't find bow ties in our budget, so I made some. I also got bit by a sewing bug and ended up sewing a pair of shoes for Zelner (I actually made two right shoes, but for my first pair of shoe I think I did all right.) and a skirt for me (which I made a completely from scratch! It turned out all right, but was too big come the day to wear it!)Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02513957006963693706noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1446525494544695074.post-20673796566500829642013-04-18T16:04:00.000-07:002013-09-16T17:05:25.562-07:002 monthsZelner had his 2 month appointment on the<br />

I know this is a very controversial subject, but we have decided to delay most vaccines. There are a few vaccines that we will be skipping, but those are ones which if we had to start by week 15. We are doing the DtAP on schedule, because Pertussis is very prevalent in our area. We are considering delaying 6 months, but might do longer. We will have him fully immunized before going to pre-school!<br />

It has been bittersweet. I enjoy having something to do, and to get me out of the house. BUT I miss my alone time with Zelner. We will have to see how long it lasts.<br />

I like to celebrate the smaller holidays, just as much as the big ones. We usually have a part of some kind, but since we had a month old, we kept it quiet. We did manage to get a picture of us in our green.<br />

Weird that doctors have lives too!<br />
<br />
We did take pictures on Wednesday, the one month mark though. We also weighed and measured him, and surprisingly our measurements were not that far from the doctor's.<br />
<br />
Zelner is now officially 9.2 pounds (22 percentile), is 22 inches long (53 percentile) and his head circumference is 36.5 cm (14.4 inches, 11 percentile).<br />
<br />
When we measured he was 21.5 inches long and 9.6 pounds (fully dressed).<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Milestones</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
He is getting better at falling asleep, but not so much at STAYING asleep.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Starting to be too long for my newborn clothes, but 0-3 month clothes don't quite fit either.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The newborn diapers, still fit, but he is liking the small gDiapers much better.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Loves to hold my head up, and hate having it covered.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Loves being in the Moby, and sometimes will scream and scream until someone puts him in it. (Holding him tight and close doesn't cut it.)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I love to put shoes on him, the jury is out on whether he likes them too.<br />

We can not believe we have had Zelner for two weeks now. At times if feels way longer, and at others like we just got him yesterday.<br />
<br />
This week Zelner said good bye to visiting family, and then met some more family.<br />
<br />
After visiting for a week, my family headed back across the mountains. We were sad to have them leave, and grateful for all the help they provided.<br />
<br />
On Saturday, we had his newborn pictures taken. We are looking forward to seeing the final edits of those. What we have seen looks great!<br />
<br />
Also on Saturday, due to poor planning on our part, we had to go up to Spokane. He did great in the car on the way up and back, and during our errands. Brody also got to spends some quality time with Zelner. Brody really enjoys spending time with him, sometime homework gets delayed until really late.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Zelner was born at night on Wednesday the 13th, and so we were able to enjoy that first night alone and figuring things out.<br />
<br />
I forgot to include a picture of Nurse Nicole, she was the nurse that caught Zelner.<br />
<br />

<div class="MsoNormal">
Our little miracle decided to enter this world in the most surprising and miraculous way.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I will start from the beginning, so about a week before the
birth I was having irregular contractions. Except, I didn’t know they were
actual contractions, I thought they were just stronger Braxton Hicks. On
Saturday, the day Alice came, they were a little more regular, but went away
when I laid down for bed. At my 39 week appointment on Tuesday (Feb 12th), I asked the
Doctor about them and he said they were probably Braxton Hicks and my body was
gearing up for labor, but don’t get to excited it could still be a while. I
went about my day, and finally finished packing our hospital bags. Then about
10 that night, I started to feel crummy, and went to bed. Brody come to
check on me a little later (he and Alice were watching a movie) and he thought
that I might be in the early stage of early labor. I didn’t think so. In the
morning I emailed my Doula with some questions and asked about the
contractions. She said to distinguish between false labor and real labor, to
alternate activity and rest. So, I sent Brody to work and school, and Alice and
I worked on finishing up some things I wanted to get done that day. Around 2 that afternoon, Alice and I went for a walk around the block to see what the contractions
would do. The contractions didn’t stop, nor did they become closer together, but
they did increase in intensity.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Also around 2 Brody asked if he needed come home or should go to
class, I told him to go to class. After class he wanted to know if he should go
back to work, and I said it was time for him to come home. The contractions
were stronger, but I was still in denial that I was in labor. We hadn’t been
timing the contractions, so when Brody got home he started timing them. At 4.30
they were one minute long and about 5-7 minutes about, and so Brody called the
Doula. Because we hadn’t told her that I
might be in labor that morning, she wasn’t quite ready to come over. She got to
our place a 5.30. We had discussed not going to the hospital until my water
broke, or I couldn’t handle the contractions, which is why we were still at home.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
ViviAnne, our Doula, watched us work through a couple of contractions
and asked about how I was feeling. I said I felt a little uncomfortable, and
that I felt like some of the contractions where in my back. She felt the baby’s
position and thought that he might be posterior. So we change my position to
hands and knees, and the contractions stayed in my back. At 5.50 we tried the
Robozo to see if we could get the baby to rotate. A posterior baby, will have
difficultly entering the birth canal, and then the rotation they need to to go
through is more difficult. The Robozo is
a Mexican midwife technique to move the baby. There are different ways to do
this. ViviAnne, “sifted” the baby, which can help they baby flip. We did the
Robozo for about 5 minutes, at which point I go, “I feel like puking!” ViviAnne stops
and asks if I felt the baby move. I hadn’t and so we wait and see what the next
couple of contractions were like. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Now through all of this I never felt “in pain”, like they
tell you will have nor did I feel like I needed to go to the hospital. I
actually I kept thinking this wasn’t actually in labor until about 6.10. At
this point I realized that the contractions, after doing the Robozo, were right
on top of each other. I started thinking that maybe we should head to the
hospital. At this point, ViviAnne also asks if I felt like my water had broken.
I responded no, but that I feel like the contractions on right on top of each
other. I was still talking through them, and still wasn’t in pain. Then at 6.15
I feel this urge to push, and I think to myself, “This is a different
sensation” so I calmly say, “Umm… I feel like pushing.” ViviAnne, looks at me
with the biggest eyes I have ever seen and goes, “Are the bags in the car? We
need to leave, NOW!” Brody and ViviAnne help me up off the floor (I had laboring
on hands and knees) and I throw a sweater on and some slippers and head out to
the car. Once in the car, I started to feel the most uncomfortable. We left the
house at 6.23 and were able to drive across Pullman without hitting a red
light, which is something that never happens. I kept telling Brody to slow down
and drive the speed limit, he kept telling me he was doing the speed limit.
Once we turned the corner to head up the hill to the hospital I feel this pop
and a gush of fluid, and go “Brody, I think I broke my water.”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
We get to the hospital (it is 6.31) and Brody tries to park
in the parking lot, where ViviAnne tells Brody to park next to the birth place,
once we get there a nurse comes out with a wheel chair. I am helped out of the
car, wheeled into the birth place, and striped down. I get in the bed, and they
tell me they have to check to see if I can push. In other words, they wanted to
make sure I was fully dilated. I was at a 10 and plus 3, which means the baby
was 3 centimeters into the birth canal and fully engaged. I was ready to go,
the staff no so much.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
My doctor had not been notified I was there, and I was
pushing, despite the nursing staff telling me to stop. They wanted to set up
the fetal monitor to check the heart beat, and they kept trying, but couldn’t
find it. The staff kept asking me questions, which was REALLY ANNOYING!!! While
they are trying to find the heat beat, they give me some oxygen to see if that
helps increase the baby’s heat rate. Which was really nice, cause I was
forgetting to breathe and Brody had to keep prodding me. They still couldn’t
find it so they put one of those finger heat rate things on me, and were trying to
find a doctor from my office. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The Doctor from my office that was on call, was the Doctor I
didn’t like and had got the other two doctors to finally agree to come instead.
So the staff was suppose to call Doctor Harper, who was on call, but ViviAnne
told them to call Hall, but in all actuality, my doctor, Jamie Bowman, was on
call. The staff, was so flustered that it could them awhile to figure out
who to actually call. But because it took them too long to call my doctor, the
staff kept asking if a doctor who was on the floor could come in. I don’t
remember, but I kept telling them no. ViviAnne, gets in my face and tells me
they need to have the doctor come in, and because I was on my knees holding the
back of the bed, I wouldn’t see who caught the baby anyway. I tell her "Fine, I don’t
care."</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Then the nurse at the foot of the bed, says, we need to slow
this down, can you flip over? I finish the couple of pushes I was in the middle
of, and the flip, and push. The nurse, at that moment, turned to change her
gloves, and ViviAnne yells, HEAD! The nurse turns around, and just in time to
bare handed catch Zelner. He had the cord around his neck, and she unwrapped
that, and the next thing I know, I am holding my baby and the nurses are wiping him
off. He was born at 6.55 PM Wednesday, Feb 13th.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Seriously, I did not know I was going to have the world
fastest labor for a first time mom. If I had, we might have called ViviAnne
earlier, and gone to the hospital earlier. I was all prepared for a long labor,
like they tell you to expect. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Everything went well, I have a bruise tail bone, and had to
get stitches from tearing. I feel like I
am recovering nicely, but I also need to remember I can’t do everything
yet. Brody has been very helpful. He is
also so cute and loving with Zelner. We
are both trying to get some sleep, but it is hard sleeping for an hour or two.
Plus with school and work, the poor guy is stretched thin. He also has a hard
time leaving to do homework. I know that if he stayed home he wouldn’t get
anything done.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>

So at 37 weeks, I feel like I look like a slob. I can't get my normally perfect hair to do anything, and I feel huge.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi97IKJh4F6SKBrXaw47DgMvJ0lV77N2ZpkzKAMAckh5U_KQQcJuiuxhaDEP-7KccnwpO4y_SSF9RH3yPF-jWWoN37rC5xRvUjU-efU1YimDqx43WYKCaGxoFUvFx6hzXCnmOS1uTSM9Gc/s1600/baby+bump+37+weeks.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi97IKJh4F6SKBrXaw47DgMvJ0lV77N2ZpkzKAMAckh5U_KQQcJuiuxhaDEP-7KccnwpO4y_SSF9RH3yPF-jWWoN37rC5xRvUjU-efU1YimDqx43WYKCaGxoFUvFx6hzXCnmOS1uTSM9Gc/s320/baby+bump+37+weeks.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">37 weeks</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I am not a huge fan of bump pics, but lets compare 20 weeks to 17 weeks later...<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkLP2PwPeQHOD_ZN91puEQzo9GBCUSpApVFfNMHCMQ7wtEinb37oi511fiFlslDKTziLDu4c8uRlKr2ZZsuxl_hskVlo2peuKtcaO0xObfCbMUhSUP4hhtddDdCJY8GRkWsFgqZEe2jEc/s1600/16.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkLP2PwPeQHOD_ZN91puEQzo9GBCUSpApVFfNMHCMQ7wtEinb37oi511fiFlslDKTziLDu4c8uRlKr2ZZsuxl_hskVlo2peuKtcaO0xObfCbMUhSUP4hhtddDdCJY8GRkWsFgqZEe2jEc/s320/16.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">20 weeks</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
There is a difference. At my last couple appointments I have been measuring about 2 weeks behind. I am keeping my figures crossed that means small baby!<br />
<br />
This weekend, I spent some time working the the nursery. Don't let that fool, you it is more like a large walk-in closet with a window and no door...<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is the wall where the crib will go.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Since the room, is about 5.5 feet by 6.5 feet, it is really cramped. Decorating a room with out the largest piece of furniture is a little tricky, but that is what a tape measure is for!<br />
<br />
I thought it would be nice to put a cute saying on the wall, but we have that stupid popcorny walls... So pictures it is. The banner is going to go all the way around the room, hopefully I can find matching paper.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Wall to the right of the crib.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This wall still needs some work. Above the window, the banner will continue, but will have the baby's name centered over the window. Below is a wire box shelf, where we will store extra bedding, toys, blankets, and things we will need more accessible than in the basement.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Wall to the left of the crib</td></tr>

This wall, is also were the door is, and below the light switch is a little stand for books and the iPod dock. There is one more wall, but it isn't finished yet, maybe this weekend.<br /><br /><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Dresser, not in the nursery</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Of course baby needs a place to put all its clothes, diapers, socks, and miscellaneous baby items. This is in the living room, it doesn't fit in the nursery.<br />
<br />
Well there it is, our mostly finished nursery, for a mostly finished baby!<br />

Goals and AllBirthdays are big deals to me. I try to act all cool, like it isn't a big deal, but I am kind of Big Deal. So this year, with all the baby stuff going on and my birthday also marking four weeks to baby, I was more tentative about having a celebration. In other words, I didn't talk about what I wanted for my Birthday.<br />
<br />
This ended up causing a little bit of fiction at home. I feel like Brody forgot it was my birthday... He did though get me some sweat pants and a hoodie that fit, even with my pregnant belly! Wahoo!! I have considered keeping them by the door, so I can just strip and put them on as soon as I get home...<br />
<br />
Well per my annual tradition of a goal list for the year, I thought I might should look at my goal list from last year...<br />

I figured it would all work its self out. Well, boy was I wrong!<br />
<br />
It all started with a room that is too small, and a giant (but totally awesome) crib. This lead to months of sleepless nights, and many tears
shed over this ridiculous situation, that we don’t really need to resolve until April or
so. I feel really bad for Brody, he
tried so hard to help me solve this.<br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
This summer we got a crib from Lilli, Brody’s sister. It was a really nice crib, converted from a
crib to a toddler bed to a full. It
didn’t fit in the room except under the giant window.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJA3r4_2Rzb223C7RzjTvIm5UqO6SromVxfoTXCXwzqWy3bhoYW-fqB-zvJ4Wqzh7iCRZBNsoXe7sC6jNzuT-mc2qymE6HU4_ezxSoDbQVBuweefFSvJs5bHdQBWfGvjq2I-eHde7TK40/s1600/Zuchinni+Baby.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJA3r4_2Rzb223C7RzjTvIm5UqO6SromVxfoTXCXwzqWy3bhoYW-fqB-zvJ4Wqzh7iCRZBNsoXe7sC6jNzuT-mc2qymE6HU4_ezxSoDbQVBuweefFSvJs5bHdQBWfGvjq2I-eHde7TK40/s320/Zuchinni+Baby.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Remember Brody's Zucchini baby from September?</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
It was also a drop side, which is something I
wanted. Anyway, we had the crib set up for a few months, and I
started thinking about where a rocking chair would go. We want it in the room
with the crib. BUT with the crib perpendicular (Parallel to the giant window.) it was the only thing that would
fit comfortably in there. So Brody and I started looking for cribs but our baby
budget was disappearing faster than we thought it would. I was trying to just suck it up, but I couldn’t. A baby needs to be rocked to sleep in its sleeping space. Babies,
just like us, need a different space for different activities, play space
different from sleeping space. Then in
out birth class someone was talking about where is the best place for the crib,
and gave us this list of do's and don’t's. Brody was reading through it and then
agreed that the crib shouldn't be under the window and that we really do need a
rocking chair. So we started going through stuff and selling things on
craigslist to beef up our budget, and then my MIL found a crib for 30 bucks and
so we got it.<br />
<br />
We got it home and set it up, and I looked at it and started to
panic. It was a plastic drop side, that was BROKEN. Brody told me he would fix it, and ordered
the free part the recall replaced. We got back from Christmas and the part was
in, so Brody replaced it. It sat for a few days and it festered within me. The
only part that was replaced was the bottom of the rail, but the top was still
held together by two plastic parts. I couldn’t handle it.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipQe4lSB53xnezfw8kK5r7kt95omXXXM6NGkk3z0xQ2Lcb7xl_MSdkLcxj6EmC_DRzIdrSse1Y0bIdG_mGZubLJXccWOrlg-0HlgJx9zE7oumNHCZqw5jiYOu2vPyysAk6MEqN_tfQS-k/s1600/Crib.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipQe4lSB53xnezfw8kK5r7kt95omXXXM6NGkk3z0xQ2Lcb7xl_MSdkLcxj6EmC_DRzIdrSse1Y0bIdG_mGZubLJXccWOrlg-0HlgJx9zE7oumNHCZqw5jiYOu2vPyysAk6MEqN_tfQS-k/s320/Crib.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Crib Number 2</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Brody, worked so hard to fix the crib. He even manufactured a part at work to replace the plastic. He is so good! But my crazy pregnant brain, couldn't get over the fact that the crib was recalled and broken. (Seriously, I would be crying over this 'malfunctioning crib', and telling Brody I am sorry I can't help it.)<br />
I felt that we could
find something way better and up to standards and we could just eat the $30.
Brody couldn’t. He kept trying to “fix-it”. So of course more tears, and sleepless nights…<br />
<br />
I started to
research cribs, I learned a lot about the safety standards, materials used now
versus 20 years, ever 5 years ago, and even got pissed off at the government
just like I would in high school. I also learned that companies lie hand over foot
about what their crib is made of and what paint they use. We stopped looking at cribs in our budget and
was ready to ask my dad for some money for the crib. We even were planning a
trip up to Spokane to look at cribs. That’s when we learned about all the lying
companies are doing these days. So we stopped looking at traditional wooden
cribs and started looking at iron cribs actually manufactured in the US. I
started talking to my dad about it, and started considering borrowing a Grand for a crib.
Then I started to feel guilty for asking my dad for money, especially since we
have never had to borrow money from my parents. So, we decided to look again, this time we went to Consumer Reports.<br />
<br />
I really enjoy reading what Consumer Reports has to say about products, maybe because I am an engineer. At Consumer Reports we found
out about Ikea’s cribs. Interestingly
enough they never came up in my research, but scored 81 out of 100 on consumer
reports and they were in our budget. They even have more good reviews than bad, they
are made out of solid hardwood, and they are super cheap. We picked one out,
and my dad picked it up, we didn’t want to pay $45 in shipping. He will be bring that along with a rocking chair when this baby decides it is time to meet the world.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Our crib.</td></tr>

We forgot to bring some cash with us to get hot dogs afterwards. So we drove around for a bit for a ma and pa burger joint someone had suggested to Brody. We couldn't  find it, but we found Effie's.</p>
<p>It was very similar to a place we had gone on a double date with some good friends of mine, Tugboat Annie's in Olympia.</p>
<p>We split the burger and some fries, and boy we are stuffed! We only ate half of the burger. </p>

Our drive over was uneventful, although we left about 2 hours later than we planned. We left Friday, and Saturday my little sister threw me a baby shower.<br />
<br />
It was a small shindig, and some friends that live over on the westside were able to come. Some I don't get to see that often too! We had fun, I also learned that geometry can come in handy when trying to guess how many candies are in a jar.<br />
<br />
I got some great baby things, including things I didn't think of, namely bath stuff. Also some fun toys and a couple of outfits.<br />
<br />
I also got the best surprise! When my sister called to ask to throw me a shower, she asked what I wanted. Joking, I told her I wanted an ice cream cake with an airplane being piloted by a giraffe. Since, we don't know the gender, I couldn't decided between two themes, airplanes or jungle/giraffes. So, we are going with both. Alice was able to get the cake decorator to fulfill my crazy pregnancy desires.<br />

Sunday, we all went to church for the Christmas program. It was really good, and dad was even there. We only stayed for first hour, but I was able to see some of the people I was hoping too. I also got some very unwanted child birthing advise... I guess that comes with the territory.<br />
<br />
Also, a friend of my mom, gave me a sweater than my mom had made. It was very unexpected. She had a baby boy a couple months or so before mom died and mom had given her a sweater, with a hat and socks. At the time she caught me, we didn't know how many sweaters mom had made for her business. I have received some blankets my grandmother collected from my aunts that my mom made. This sister, wanted to pass this set on to us. She told me about how she was always impressed by what my mom could create and the knowledge of the Gospel. I will treasure this sweater, and will use it to tell my children about their grandmother, and the compassion and service of this one sister.<br />
<br />
Christmas, was interesting this year. It was different, but good. I was able to surprise Brody with a set of ratcheting combination wrenches, and he surprised me with an All-Clad skillet!<br />
<br />
After Christmas, my sisters and I went through some of my mom's crafting and business stuff. We were able to claim sweaters, blankets, socks, and hats. Brody and I also went looking for a traditional rocking chair. It took us all morning one day driving around the Olympia area, but we finally found one!<br />
<br />
Overall it was a good trip and we enjoyed being able to spend some time with my family for happy things.<br />

The food was good, as always, and we enjoyed family.<br />
<br />
I made pies, a peach pie and a pumpkin pie! The peach was a new recipe, turned out alright and my pumpkin pie was great as always.<br />

This year's pumpkin I think was the best, because the pumpkin was from my mother in-laws garden. We saved some seeds and hope to grow some more this year. Maybe we will be able to start a new tradition and have an heirloom pumpkin pie!<br />

After Thanksgiving we headed north to Spokane for a little Babymoon. We stayed at our favorite place, the Davenport. Enjoyed some good food, shopping, and sleeping in a bed that is amazing! One day we will be able to afford the bed set.<br />

<br />
This year for Halloween, I finished the costumes I was going to do for last year. We went to our ward's Halloween party. We don't get trick or treaters so we don't do much. We enjoy Halloween, but never get invited out to things. On Halloween we just stayed in and watched <i>Young Frankenstein</i>. I had never seen it before, and enjoyed it.<br />
